Hunting Lodge
A True Sportsman’s Paradise
This timber frame, barn-style getaway home was designed to evoke the feeling of an old hunting lodge. The natural nut-brown exterior portrays the look of an old, classic barn, while the rear of the building displays an exquisite chimney on a matching stone patio that shows this home is more than one would expect.
The kitchen has a retro vibe to it with bright red cabinetry and accents. A copper hood is over the stove and matches the top of the large island. Nearby, the color palette is carried into a cozy dining room with a large table that comfortably seats a dozen guests.
Designed for hunting trip retreats, this plan incorporates bunk rooms into the concept. The bunks have storage on the bottom, while built-in stairs provide easy access to the top bunks.
The great room truly has the open, airy feel of a barn, providing plenty of room for relaxation and recreation after the day’s activities have ended. Additionally, a beautiful fireplace adds some ambiance. The dark beams and rustic iron chandelier also set the tone for this hunting lodge. This large room provides ample space for the owner to display his trophies over a drink from the wet bar.

A Contemporary Bungalow in the Sierra Mountains
This Craftsman style home blends the tradition of a timber frame with the modern tastes of Northern California. Set on a difficult parcel of land, the Meadow Vista sought to incorporate a pool and outdoor living spaces to take in the surrounding natural beauty.
Meadow Vista is a unique property. Both in its use of traditional techniques and modern conventions, along with the layout of the floor. Constructed with plenty of space to entertain family and friends, it also provides the owners with their own private rooms. This duality is further illustrated in their separate wings. Each incorporates a garage, and the implementation of two islands in the large, open kitchen.
The look of the building highlights the rustic beauty of the timber frame; however, it hides the posts and incorporates steel crossties to give it a more modern touch. Energy efficiency was another important part of the design. It was achieved through techniques such as wrapping the walls in a radiant barrier, keeping the inside of the building cool, and a solar array on the rooftop that provides almost all of the home’s electricity.
A large back deck, pool, and hot tub provide multiple options for enjoying California’s stunning landscape. The home is located in the foothills of the Sierras. Given the challenging site, California building codes, and other hurdles, this home truly makes the most use of its available space.
Lake Winnipesaukee Lodge
A Waterfront Legacy Retreat
Built on a small parcel of land on Lake Winnipesaukee, purchased by the homeowner’s great-grandfather in 1903, this location held great memories for family and friends. Unfortunately, the original cottage that existed could not be renovated to meet the family’s evolving needs for their waterfront retreat.
The homeowners wanted a home that “evoked lake lodges of the past” and was also designed for entertaining, with sufficient room for many overnight guests. Additionally, open spaces and easy access to the water were also important to the owners’ goals.
Ample storage and prep space are features of the kitchen, which maintains a cozy, country atmosphere. Further, this waterfront retreat includes a home theater that also manages to sustain the lake lodge experience the owners hoped to achieve.
Voted One of the Best Timber Homes of the Year 2019 by Timber Home Living Magazine Readers, this residence includes stunning views of Lake Winnipesaukee while providing a sophisticated yet rustic feel.
